Today Holy Mother Church celebrates the feast day of St. Oliver Plunket, well known as an Irish priest who, after ordination, was martyred by the English for having defended Holy Mother Church as an archbishop.
He was archbishop of Armagh in Ireland and ultimate responsibility rested on his shoulders for the actions of his parishioners, who weren’t going to take attacks sitting down. They fought back–and Plunket paid for it. He was happy to do so.
Perhaps this is a fitting time to pray for the Church in Ireland. It is having troubles.
I will offer my rosary tomorrow for the intention of the Church in Ireland.
