We are "useless servants"

In Vespers today, the antiphon for the Canticle of Mary reads:

“Tell yourselves: We are useless servants, for we did only what we should have done.”

Paradoxically, perhaps, we should do more than we should be doing!

In other words, we should be going to Sunday Mass, praying daily, going to confession regularly, etc. Those things are given.

But it doesn’t stop there: to be a useful servant, we must do more than this in some way. We must never contract destination disease.
