The parish where my group of lowly first year sems has been assigned to go for observation/ministry is St. John the Baptist in Newburgh.
Great parish. Very alive. You can tell a good parish when you see it doing exactly what Jesus did: helping the poor, teaching the faith, completely devoted Priest, healing the sick, administering the sacraments as much as possible, embracing children, etc…More on this later.
We got to Newburgh a bit early this past Wednesday so we drove beyond the church and looked around. A great town, with a bit of an “old fashioned” feel to it, at least part of it.
The Ohio River is right there, and later, after ministry and before going home, I drove up to the water and marveled at the beautiful sunset.
Glorious! The picture doesn’t do it justice.
