St. Joseph, the good, just man

Today is the feast of St. Joseph, husband of Mary, father of Jesus.

As I was reading the book of Micah today, I came across the eighth verse of the sixth chapter:

“He has showed you, O man, was is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8).

Naturally, as I read that I thought of today’s saint.

God has showed us through St. Joseph’s example and countless others what is good and what the LORD requires of us.

We see in St. Joseph a simple man, but a man who was a man in every sense of the word. Some have suggested that the shortage of priestly vocations today is a byproduct of a society in which men frequently aren’t true fathers to their children or true husbands to their wives.

Fr. Larry Richard’s new book, Be a Man!, is an awesome book that discusses what true manhood is all about. I highly recommend it. But I think St. Joseph witnesses to every point in the book.

That said, St. Joseph provides an excellent example for everyone. He “did good”, “did justice”, loved kindness, and walked humbly with God.

Consequently, he was the leader of the Holy Family. He remains a leader for us.

“He has showed you, O man, was is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8).

St. Joseph: Pray for us!

  1. St. Joseph… It always seemed a little sad to me that there was no mention in the Bible when this amazing man died… Being the one to help bring Jesus up and all, but for whatever reason God I guess decided we did not need to know that so much.

I always liked this particular saint… maybe it is because I am such a daddy's girl that I have taken a liking to him. I always enjoy looking at pictures of the Holy Family, and the statue in the back of the church was a favorite of mine to look and examine….
