St. Philip Neri, patron of joy

Today Mother Church celebrates the feast day of St. Philip Neri, my confirmation saint.

Last year I had a five part series on him:

St. Philip Neri: “The Humorous Saint” (part 1 of 5)
“Simple Mortification”: Some penances issued by St. Philip Neri (part 2 of 5)
Congregation of the Oratory of Philip Neri (part 3 of 5)
“Good little Phil”: Philip’s dedication to youth (part 4 or 5)
St. Philip Neri and the feast of Corpus Christi (part 5 of 5)

This year, I just want to share with you a prayer for St. Philip Neri’s intercession that I carry around in my brievery but pray to infrequently:

O holy St. Philip Neri, patron saint of joy, you who trusted Scripture’s promise that the Lord is always at hand and that we need not have anxiety about anything, in your compassion heal our worries and sorrows and lift the burdens from our hearts. We come to you as one whose heart swells with abundant love for God and all creation. Bear us, we pray, especially in this need (make your request here). Keep us safe through your loving intercession, and may the joy of the Holy Spirit which filled your heart, St. Philip, transform our lives and bring us peace. Amen.
