Today we’ve got this beautiful reading about how hard it is for the rich to enter into heaven. I’m moved most this morning by the dialogue that follows Jesus saying that: “When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and said, ‘Who then can be saved?’ Jesus looked at them and said, ‘For men this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.'” I think it’s helpful to concentrate on the central tenet of our faith that we, in our richness, tend to forget: that we are saved by Jesus. Not by our riches of money, intellect, spirit, personality, work, etc. We are not saved by any of that. We are saved by Jesus. Let us always recognize our need for our Savior, and that savior is Jesus. Not us.
