Daily homily thoughts, 5/9

Today we celebrate St. John of Avila, a 16th century diocesan priest who lived in Spain. He had quite the missionary spirit.  He had all kinds of friends….Saints Francis Borgia, Ignatius of Loyola, John of God, John of the Cross, Peter of Alcantara, and Teresa of Avila.  Saints come together, they come in groups. That’s one lesson for today. Another is this: we should all want to be missionaries, we should have that desire from time to time. I do. St. John of Avila, he was friends with all kinds of missionaries….and he wanted to be one too. But God wanted him to be a diocesan priest, but a diocesan priest with a missionary spirit. We should all have a missionary spirit.
