Daily homily thoughts, 1/23

Today we see David happy as can be. He is happy–dancing, buying food for everyone, etc–for his fact:  finally, the ark of the covenant was back in Israel after being gone for 70 years. It had been away during Saul’s reign, and now it is back. It’s rather like this: imagine this tabernacle being out of Shelbyville for 70 years. It is hard to imagine life without that.  Then, finally, it comes back!  You’d be dancing too!  David says, in a sense: So long as I’m king, the Lord will be front and center. ANd he rejoices when the men bring the ark of the covenant back.  Praise God that we have the presence of the Lord here, too…and more than the ark of the covenant–we have its promise, its hope: Jesus!
