Daily homily thoughts, 5/28

On Memorial Day we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice–their entire lives. We thank the Lord for them.  Jesus today rebukes the rich man who comes to him wanting to know the minimum of what he has to do to get to heaven. This is our culture still today. Many want to do the “bare minimum,” to give the least they have to.  This is all over the workplace: what is the bare minimum of work I have to do to get my paycheck.  We see it all over the Church: what’s the minimum, we ask with that rich man, that we have to do to get to heaven.  Jesus isn’t interested in those who want to do the bare minimum.  He wants those who will give their all.
