Daily Mass homily, 7/3

Today we remember St. Thomas. I’ve mentioned before the antiphons in the Liturgy of the Hours, the text that surrounds the psalms we pray. There are four antiphons in Morning Prayer. Today they are all about St. Thomas, and each antiphon highlights one of his failures: he wasn’t there, he didn’t know the way, he doubted, he required proof. We remember Thomas for his failures. Yet we call him Saint and Apostle. Today, as we celebrate his memory, let us remember him for his most beautiful creed: “MY LORD AND MY GOD.” May we echo those words as we receive JEsus in the Eucharist.
