Daily homily thoughts, 1/4

Today we celebrate St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, a woman of firsts: the first America-born saint, the woman who started the first Catholic school in the US, the woman who started the first orphanage, the woman who started the fist religious community for women in the US.  Today in the Gospel, we hear this of Andrew and what he did for his brother Peter: “Then he brought him to Jesus.”  Andrew brought his brother to Jesus.  That is why St. Elizabeth Ann Seton started our Catholic schools: to bring children to Jesus. That is what we are in the business of–more than good test scores, good sports programs, or anything else. We pray for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s intercession over our own school here, and on all our Catholic schools.  That we will continue to bring children to Jesus through them.
