Daily homily thoughts, 1/9

Our readings are about fear today. “Perfect love casts out fear,” reads our first reading today. Jesus tells the disciples in the boat not to worry about the storm; take courage, he tells us.  Fear can put us down a very bad road. Fearing we won’t have enough money, we take from others. Fearing we’ll be hungry, we take food from others. Fearing rejection, we withhold the faith.  Fearing this or that person, we injure them or talk poorly about them.  Fearing for the future, we remove our trust in God.  Fearing what MIGHT happen, we refuse to participate in various things…or refuse to permit a child to. Fear brings us to do so many things.  No wonder Jesus should talk against it so much.
