Daily homily thoughts, 1/22

Today the whole US Church prays for babies — for their legal protection. It’s no accident our reading from Hebrews today talks about Abraham, a man who knew very well the value of offspring. People used to realize more clearly the value of human life. Now babies are seen as a burdens in our lives, hindrances to our quest for power and fortune…they are seen as things to be prevented (contraception, sterilization) and things to be disposed with (abortion).  All of this is a tragedy, a horrible tragedy. Today we pray for more babies, and for their legal protection.
