St Philip Neri was like the energizer bunny. He wanted to be a missionary in India, but the powers that were told him no, that he would instead be the apostle in Rome. He had a million ideas (the best way to have a good idea is to have lots of them [he who sows sparingly will reap sparingly]). He was always about doing something. After he died there was evidence all over of the deep interior life he had that made all that stuff possible. He prayed in the catacombs at night, after everyone went to bed. HE fasted more than anyone ever knew. He did charitable works in disguise. He did what Jesus talks about in Mt. 6 in oru gospel today — pray, fast, give….but in SECRET. A deep interior life brings about an incredibly powerful life of service.
