“Another factor is that the preacher should mix prayer with his preaching. The power of his prayer will make his preaching more effective. Augustine says in his book On Christian Teaching, ‘A good speaker, when he is saying things which are good and just and holy, should do all that he can to ensure that people listen to him with understanding, gladly and obediently. And if he can achieve this, he should have no doubt that it is thanks to his devout prayers rather than to his well-trained fluency in speech; it is because he prays for himself and for those he is to address. So let him be a pray-er first, and then a teacher.’”  Humbert of Romans
