Daily homily thoughts, 6/21

The LORD said to Abram:
“Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk
and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you.

“I will make of you a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
so that you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you
and curse those who curse you.
All the communities of the earth
shall find blessing in you.”

Abram went as the LORD directed him

Abram means, in Hebrew, “Abundant Father,” “Exalted Father” … that name is given to him by God….seems a bit of a slap in the face for a guy who can’t have children. Then he becomes Abraham, which means “the Father of the multitude” … sort of like the title for priests FATHER…and then we know the end of the story…Abraham becomes quite fruitful, and we are his descendants … -Fr Chase

I will always remember the fifth grade boy at my parochial school who told me, “Fr. Mike you’re the only father I’ve ever had.”
