Today our readings and our feast remind us of two things. First, we are reminded in the martyrdoms of Saint Perpetua and Felicity that human nature is capable of horrific things. Certainly the events in Ukraine right now show the same reality. Humanity is capable of horrible crimes.
Yet our gospel today is Matthew 25. Jesus tells us that when we take care of each other, by feeding and giving drink and clothing and care to others, we are in point of fact showing care to Jesus himself. Humanity is capable of taking care of God. That’s remarkable.
Our gospel reminds us of what we are capable of as humans—and it is divinity
